Willy Schlobach

Brüssel, 1865 — 1951

The German-Belgian painter Willy Schlobach (1864, Brussels - 1951, Nonnenhorn) was a co-founder of the artist’s group Les XX in 1884, whose art is characterized by a hazy atmosphere. Together with his Belgian painter friends James Ensor and Willy Finch, Schlobach studied at the Académie Royale des Beaux-Arts in Brussels. In 1887, he travelled to London, where he absorbed Neo-Impressionist influences. After World War I, Schlobach settled in Germany, where he remained until his death in 1951.
