Louis Dürr
Burgdorf, 1896 — 1972

From 1918, the Swiss painter Louis Dürr (1896, Burgdorf – 1972, Stampa) attended drawing courses at the Gewerbeschule in Basel. He then began to study at the Académie Julian in Paris, where he first came to grips with French Impressionism. After completing his education, he settled in Munich and undertook study trips to Milan and Vienna. In 1924, he began to work as a freelance painter in Bern. In addition to portraits and figure paintings, Dürr painted landscapes and Alpine landscapes in a naturalistic manner. In the powerful brushstroke and impasto paint applications that characterize Dürr's painting style, parallels can be drawn to the modern paintings of Ferdinand Hodler.
