About artist
Anton Winterlin
Degerfelden, 1805 — 1894

Anton Winterlin (1805, Rheinfelden – 1894, Basel) joined the art publishing house Peter Birmann in Basel at a young age as a draftsman. He was a student of Johann Jakob Luttringhausen and painted small-format oil and watercolour images with Swiss landscape or architectural motifs. When compared to contemporary realistic art, his transfigured Alpine landscapes, utilizing oil or gouache, coincided far more with Romantic ideals of the visualized landscape.
